Winter 2023 - Irvington, IN. USA
(6ft x 4ft)
Mural produced in honor of Hannah Crutchfield.
“On September 14, 2021 the George W. Julian School #57 community endured a tragedy. While walking home from school, a mother, daughter, and crossing guard were hit by a car. Hannah, who was 7 years old and in 1st grade at George W. Julian, did not survive. We all feel the loss of her sweet soul.
George W. Julian School #57 is a small neighborhood public school that serves students K-8 in Irvington, on the east side of Indianapolis. A group of students, while processing their trauma and grief, had the idea of giving the school playground a makeover to make it more fun and cheerful in honor of Hannah. Perhaps, with this project, the memory of Hannah can live on in a place where she enjoyed playing with her big sister and fellow students after school. “ -IPS HONORING HANNAH
When asked to be involved in this project it was a no brainer. Robin Long-Jordan reached out mentioning a mural component to the playground makeover in honor of a sweet little girl named Hannah. Getting the opportunity to meet Hannah’s mother and other community members cemented how much of a responsibility it is to produce this mural in conjunction with the school.
Students were involved in the design process and were asked to vote on their favorite design and colors for the mural. Upon completion and installation, it was wonderful to see all of the kiddos enjoying the new playground and crying out with joy. Hannah lives on in the smiles of all those who enjoy this space for years to come.
Much love. Spread love. And be kind.
