Franklin Intersection

Summer 2025 – Franklin, Indiana
(~1,360 sq ft intersection + crosswalks)

Nick Abstract was invited by the City of Franklin and the Franklin Public Art Advisory Commission to lead the design and execution of a bold intersection mural in the heart of Franklin’s cultural district. This project, located at Monroe and Jackson Streets, aimed to serve both as a traffic-calming measure and a celebration of the pedestrian-heavy corridor leading into Youngs Creek Park and the amphitheater.

Nick worked closely with Community Development Specialist Dana Monson over a two-year period, exploring multiple concepts and installation approaches before landing on a final design and long-term implementation strategy. The mural spills beyond the core intersection, reaching into the surrounding streets and echoing the flow of foot traffic and festival energy that defines downtown Franklin.

Thanks to the expert assistance of the Franklin Street Department, the mural was installed using a highly durable, heat-treated material—ensuring it will endure vehicle traffic and weather for many years to come.

Nick is grateful to the entire Franklin community for their support and collaboration. It was an honor to lead the creative vision for such a thoughtful and community-driven project.
