This conceptual mural was created as an exploration of how large-format art can bring warmth, identity, and human connection to the sterile exteriors often found on hospital buildings. Designed for a healthcare setting in downtown Indianapolis, Vital Forms aims to activate the blank architectural canvas with a composition that balances professionalism and precision with the organic, unpredictable nature of human life.

The mural uses abstract geometric forms—clean yet expressive—to reflect the structure and order of medical systems, while fluid overlays and unexpected intersections nod to the complexities of healing, emotion, and personal journeys. The result is a visual language that feels both grounded and uplifting, offering patients, staff, and visitors a moment of calm engagement and visual relief.

Though uncommissioned, this mockup reflects Nick Abstract’s ongoing interest in how public art can support environments of care, transforming them from purely functional spaces into more welcoming, human-centered experiences.
