Summer 2025 – Washington D.C.
16.5×65 ft
Following the Washington, D.C. UMBRELLA Art Fair, Nick Abstract was invited to design a large-scale mural for the rear exterior of a private residence just outside the city. The home’s striking architecture—defined by raw concrete and bold geometry—offered a natural fit for Nick’s abstract language, leading to an effortless creative dialogue between artist and client.
Early conversations revealed a shared admiration for the Russian avant-garde artist El Lissitzky, particularly his Proun series. Inspired by this reference point, Nick created a composition rooted in spatial tension and visual balance, substituting Lissitzky’s soft circular motifs with sharper, hourglass-inspired forms that gesture toward the passage of time. A deconstructed “P” is also embedded into the work, functioning as both a formal anchor and a quiet conceptual nod.
Now spanning the full height of the home’s concrete façade, the mural transforms the surrounding pool and gallery area into an immersive visual experience. In tandem with the piece, the clients also acquired two original canvases from Nick’s Planetary Neighbors series, continuing a dialogue between interior and exterior space.
This project reflects Nick’s ability to integrate abstraction with architectural nuance—resulting in a site-specific work that feels at once precise, poetic, and personal.
